Sandy’s Background Makes Her Highly Qualified

Joe, Carl, Sandy and Lindsey

Strong family life means a sound foundation for caring and understanding your needs:

Joe and Sandy have been married for 30 years and are parents to daughter Lindsey (age 24) and son Carl (age 20)

Church and Volunteer activities show a long term contribution to community:

  1. Church Council Member, Vasa Lutheran Church, Vasa, MN

  2. Strong supporter of 4-H county fair auctions, past 4-H project leader. Click here for more details.

  3. Longtime 3M Company Visiting Wizard Science Demonstrations.

  4. Received the 2003 Community Volunteer Award in recognition of a 25 year commitment to youth development.

A solid education has prepared her for the complexities of the modern state:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Augsburg College

  2. Master’s degree in Public Administration from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. This degree was funded by the Seaman’s Fellowship in Science, Technology & Public Policy in recognition for her work in pollution prevention programs and her volunteer efforts teaching and encouraging students to pursue science careers.

Extensive background means an informed legislator in health care, education, jobs, the environment, energy and transportation:

  1. As a Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist at 3M Company, she understands environmental regulations, and has come up with solutions that enhanced 3M’s environmental performance while improving business performance. She will bring this knowledge to the legislature.

  2. Also as a Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist she has dealt with federal and state regulations from both federal and state agencies. What better expertise to have as a legislator. She will not be snowed by lobbyists.

  3.

  4. As a past member of the Energy Markets Operating Committee at 3M Company she understands energy issues and can apply this knowledge to enhance our energy options.

  5. Sandy now works in the Abrasives Systems Division. Her responsibilities are environmental, health, safety and regulatory law (EHSR). A further recognition of her strength.

  6.

  7. While a leader of the Environmental, Health, Safety & Regulatory Affairs coordination team dealing with health and industrial hygiene, the team won an Environmental Health and Safety Award. This shows understanding of health related issues which prepares her well for improving complex systems.

Political experience means ability to produce results in a fiscally responsible way:

  1. In her 8 years on the Cannon Falls School Board she did not only fill a seat. She produced tangible financial results.

  2. For example: When a power company tried to divert public funds to their cause, she involved the public and saved the district millions of dollars. The first offer to the school district from the power plant was a $50,000 donation to the Education Foundation. The current offer is $6.2 million paid over 20 years.

  3. Two operating referenda were passed which indicates strong ability to engage public support.

“The more I get to know Sandy, the more I find that she is genuinely interested in people and their struggles—whether it deals with their insurance, their jobs, or their quality of life. She was there for me as an interested person when I ran for the school board. Thanks Sandy.”
