1. Issues of importance to District 28A residents

  2. Sandy is an independent Democrat who listens to her constituents She studies the issues. Sandy is a leader we can trust. She will restore people’s faith in politics.

  3. Imagine representation where there is more equality, fair play, and a representative who is willing to listen to different viewpoints. That's Sandy’s pledge to you. She assures you that that is how she will lead when she is your state representative—and it is exactly how she leads in her community and job activities.

  4. Prosperity is a healthy community where the benefits of economic growth are accessible to all.

  5. Eight issues are addressed here because they are important to local residents:

  6. 1.  Achieve fair school financing and access to quality education

  7. 2.  Provide access to affordable medical care and insurance, available to all

  8. 3.  Make affordable energy choices available

  9. 4.  Protect and create decent wage jobs for strong local economies

  10. 5.  Restore fairness in taxation

  11. 6.  Protect the environment while supporting businesses and jobs

  12. 7.  Improve transportation safety

  13. 8.  Preserve local control

  14. 1.  Achieve fair school financing and access to quality education

  15. I believe that education is an investment in our future. One of the most effective ways we can bolster the already solid work of our teachers and our schools is to place more resources in early childhood education. Studies by the business community have found that this early intervention is effective not only for school readiness but also greatly improves the likelihood for success in higher education.

  16. While on the Cannon Falls School Board we successfully passed two operating referendums. This allowed us to stay in the black and remodel our science education rooms. Student interest in the sciences improved as a result of our investment.

  17. Higher education is fundamental to the vitality of Minnesota’s economy. Our colleges and universities provide business and industry with employees who keep Minnesota competitive in the global market. However, over the past decade tuition at our state institutions has risen by more than 15 percent. We cannot afford to price students out of pursuing higher education and losing our state’s competitive edge.

Sandy spent nearly two hours with the 6th grade classes of Goodhue school in early 2008. She explained the upcoming session priorities, what she was working on locally, and listened to their concerns.

“I know we can count on Sandy Wollschlager

for common sense leadership

as our state representative”.

Dave Mayer, Wabasha

  1. 2. Provide access to affordable medical care and insurance, available to all

  2. If you feel that our health care system costs more than it should, then we agree. Ameri
cans pay twice as much, or more, per capita, for health services and insurance when compared to citizens of other developed countries. Yet, we have lower life spans, higher infant mortality, and generally receive a lot less for our money. One of the biggest myths in the United States is that we have a free private market in health care and those other countries don’t. Please, let me help you improve the quality of our health care system.

  3. “Sandy has a broad understanding of the full spectrum

  4. of issues that she will be faced with in the Legislature. She

  5. is not a one-issue candidate. She has an amazing depth

  6. of understanding of the issues.”

  7. Roslyn Hjermstad, Cannon Falls Township

(Feb. 1, 2008, Wabasha, MN)

Dr. Mann and assistants provided free dental care to children whose families could otherwise not afford the care.  Sandy is grateful for dentists like Dr. Mann who are willing to step up and make a commitment to children.  Klaire and Kasey received high marks for doing a good job of brushing their teeth, but the Dr. recommended sealants for the permanent back teeth.  This simple procedure can prevent cavities for a long time, and it’s a great way to reduce health care costs in the long run. Sandy understands the need for preventative services because she worked in dental products research for greater than 10 years. Picture is of Dr. Mann, Assistant Janet, and sisters Klaire and Kasey Johnson of Wabasha.

  1. 3.  Make affordable energy choices available

  2. The energy crunch has us all talking about global climate change. For two decades the United States hasn’t taken leadership in multilateral interna
tional negotiations to deal with climate change. Other countries took the leadership role and we didn’t like that. So now, we’re just beginning to play catch up on one of the biggest issues in the world. Hollywood’s versions are playing on the big screen and it’s either scaring people or making people laugh.

  3. The reality is parent’s trimmed back summer vacations because of high pump cost. Seniors on a fixed income are using window fans instead of air conditioning. And for kids, the melting ice caps mean the polar bears could become extinct.

  4. The environment is vulnerable to man’s actions: we are capable of upsetting nature’s checks and balances. You, the consumer, should have more choices that positively impact the future.

  5. I will use my negotiation skills to create access to these choices for you.

  6. Sandy impresses me with her personal leadership skills and as a fantastic

  7. listener. Her strong science background prepares her so well to work

  8. on issues related to the environment, energy, and conservation."

  9. Pat and Roger Sween, Red Wing

  10. 4. Stronger local economies

  11. Jobs are the foundation of local communities. The difference between generations has been the increased education and the types of jobs people are able to hold. I want people to have opportunities to pull themselves up through education and a better job.  Supporting public education, and working toward a stronger economy are my top priorities.

  12. I will be an active, strong voice to help improve jobs and your take-home pay.

  13. “Sandy looks out for the working guy.”

  14. Craig Larkin, Goodhue

  15. 5.  Restore fairness in taxation

  16. Goodhue County property owners have seen their taxes rise significantly. Over the last 10 years 30 percent of the taxes formerly paid by Xcel Energy are now paid by homeowners. Now the company is seeking more tax breaks! In the past four years statewide Republican-led changes have resulted in an increase of more than $2 billion in homeowner property taxes.

  17. You can count on me to say, “no more tax shifts.”

  18. 6.  Protect the environment while supporting businesses and jobs

  19. The bluff-land region is rated one of the top ten most threatened scenic attractions in America. It is subject to environmentally degrading development pressure.

  20. In my experiences at 3M, I have participated in solving serious environmental problems while at the same time protecting businesses and jobs.

  21. I will bring this experience to the legislature.

  22. 7. Improve transportation safety

  23. Transportation gridlock is a significant issue in the metropolitan area, and the safety of our roads is an issue here. Tax shifts h
ave benefitted the Twin Cities and Rochester, and now there is a fairness issue throughout the state. This must be addressed from a fairness perspective.

  24. I will be you fairness watch dog.

  25. 8. Preserve local control

  26. Who should have control over local issues? The state? Corporations? Or, local citizens and their elected representatives?

  27. I will be your active voice to protect your rights.
